  • 🦀 1/2 lb (225 g) crab meat or legs
  • 🥫 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 🧅 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 🧄 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 🥕 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 🌿 1 cup white fish or seafood stock
  • 🍷 1/2 cup white grape juice (non-alcoholic substitute for wine)
  • 🌿 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 🌿 1 tsp dried basil
  • 🌶️ 1/4 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • 🥄 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 🧂 Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 🌿 Fresh parsley for garnish
  • 🥖 Crusty bread for serving

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Sauté Vegetables
    Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and garlic. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add Tomatoes and Stock
    Stir in the crushed tomatoes, fish stock, and white grape juice. Season with oregano, basil, red chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
  3. Simmer the Base
    Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes to develop the flavors.
  4. Add Seafood
    Add the fish chunks, shrimp, squid rings, and crab. Simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked and shrimp are pink and opaque.
  5. Adjust Seasoning
    Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
  6. Serve
    Ladle the cioppino into bowls, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve with crusty bread for dipping.
