Sopa de Lima Recipe (Mexican Lime Soup)

A traditional dish from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, sopa de lima is a spicy, flavorful chicken and tomato soup

Ingredients :

  • 🐓 2 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
  • 🥣 6 cups chicken broth
  • 🧅 1 medium onion, diced
  • 🌶️ 2 jalapeños, seeded and chopped
  • 🥕 2 medium carrots, sliced
  • 🍅 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 🧄 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 🧂 Salt and pepper to taste
  • 🍋 4 limes, juiced
  • 🌮 4 corn tortillas, cut into strips and fried until crispy

Timing (with icons):

  • 🍲 Cook Time: 30 minutes
  • ⏳ Total Time: 45 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the base:
    • In a large pot, heat some oil and sauté the onions, garlic, and jalapeños until fragrant.
  2. Cook the soup:
    • Add the carrots, tomatoes, oregano, and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Add chicken and lime:
    • Stir in the shredded chicken and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Serve and garnish:
    • Ladle the soup into bowls and top with crispy tortilla strips. Garnish with additional lime slices and fresh cilantro if desired.
